"Private Reserve" is generally a term to indicate that a brewer has secretly put aside some of the best-of-the-best for themselves. However the stockholders found out about it and forced them to fork it over - with the fringe benefit of having a story where they can charge more.
So, buckle up. There's no getting around it, it's a monster - and probably won't be finished in a single sitting.
Lots of chocolate, charcol, rasin and cherry flavors balanced against a strong bitterness. When I need to impress chef and brewing friends, this is what I serve. (Fun Fact: it was once served "under the counter" in a friend's tasting menu)
This is a Black IPA with grains from Quebec and Lanark using hops grown in the mid-west (Mt Hood). Yeast (which did come in) is a North East Ale Yeast common to IPAs. It's hoppy.
